Location: Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Indio, California
Role: Projection Team / Scenic Lighting / Technical Integration
Client: Coachella
Production Partner: Bamboo DNA
Description:
As part of the projection and scenic lighting team for Bugaboo Zoo, I helped bring to life a large-scale art installation that imagined a crash landing of bamboo insects — a surreal narrative where organic forms and technology collided in the desert.
Commissioned by Coachella and produced in collaboration with Bamboo DNA, the piece transformed a vast outdoor environment into a living habitat of light, motion, and sound. Our team integrated projection mapping, sculptural builds, and scenic lighting to animate the insect-inspired structures and create a sense of movement and otherworldly presence.
I contributed to projector alignment, playback systems, and lighting integration, ensuring that every illuminated element and projection cue blended seamlessly with the physical sculptures.
Outcome:
Bugaboo Zoo became one of Coachella’s most memorable art installations — a playful fusion of architecture, projection, and storytelling that captured the imagination of festivalgoers. The project reflected the collaborative vision of Bamboo DNA and the broader creative team, showcasing how light and sculpture can transform narrative concepts into immersive experiences.
